11TH REGION BASEBALL: Central's late comeback comes up short

The Indians faced a five-run deficit heading into the top of the seventh inning on Tuesday in the semifinals of the 11th Region Tournament. They weren't, however, about to quit. And after Druw Hess drew a walk, #15 Madison Central had the tying run at first base. That's where the rally ended.

#4 Lexington Catholic (28-9) got a groundout to wrap up a 7-4 win over the Indians at Don Richardson Field. The Knights move into the region title game for the first time since 2011 and will take on Great Crossing (24-12) on Wednesday in Richmond.

11TH REGION BASEBALL: Indians hold off Scott County

Griffin Lyons has been in plenty of pressure situations this season. And he has never backed away from any of those challenges. “I’m used to it at this point,” the junior right-hander said.

In the biggest moment, he came up big again. Lyons struck out Scott County’s James Wilson with two runners on to preserve a 4-3 win for #15 Madison Central on Monday in the opening round of the 11th Region Tournament in Richmond.

44TH DISTRICT BASEBALL: Indians claim fifth-straight title

An injury has prevented Bradley Poynter from pitching this season. It hasn’t, however, kept him off the field. Used almost exclusively as a designated hitter, he hit .489 during the regular season and lead the team in RBI (34), hits (44), walks (19) and doubles (11).

On Wednesday, Poynter’s potent bat once again delivered in a big moment for the Indians (25-9). The senior hit a three-run homer in the sixth inning, which propelled Central to a 10-2 win over Madison Southern (15-17) in the championship game of the 44th District Tournament at Don Richardson Field.
