No Shortage of Favorites in the 11th Region

Who's the team to beat in the 11th Region baseball tournament that begins Monday at Whitaker Bank Ballpark? 
#1 Lexington Catholic?  #3 Madison Central?  #8 Tates Creek?

"I don't think there's a clear-cut favorite," Madison Central Coach Steve Roof said. "I think it depends on matchups and who's throwing who. There are some really good pitchers in this thing." Madison Central will face one of those aces — Woodford County sophomore Clint Hollon — in the first round. "We've got to find a way to score some runs off him," Roof said. "It won't be easy."Madison Central, which spent several weeks at No. 1, has the best record (29-4) in the region. The Indians have played several of their region rivals. They beat Woodford County 6-0 in the season opener. They've also beaten Lexington Catholic, Henry Clay (twice) and Western Hills (twice). Madison Central lost to Bryan Station twice and was shut out both times. Roof pointed to Tates Creek as a team with momentum, highlighted by victories over No. 6 Lafayette and No. 1 Lexington Catholic in the 43rd District tournament. Henry Clay is unrated, but it knocked off No. 12 Bryan Station in the 42nd District title game. The Blue Devils were overlooked somewhat last year, but they got hot and reached the region finals before losing to Lexington Christian Academy.  Mike Fields, Herald-Leader  (5/30/11)
